On the Move

Some exciting news from headquarters this Christmas. There is lots of movement, talk about moving, and moving parts to manage. Stuff is being donated or sold -yes, Da Sky and I are very closely guarding our stuff –  and boxes are being filled.  Da Sky and I even had to practise sitting in a big box for a gazillion days couple of hours. No, no, we are not left behind since we are considered priceless. Pew, that’s a relief.

The word is that we will move overseas but we won’t travel by boat. Why not travel by boat over the sea? Yeah, that beats me too. Traveling by boat would have been my first choice since I got my captain’s license way back and Da Sky is a fine first mate. Instead, we will travel by car and then in an air-monster. The car will be easy peasy. We will even have a VIP chauffeur flown in for us from Europe Still, I’m not too sure about the air-monster. You-all know that Da Sky can fly and  I’m famous for breaking the sound barrier but we are no rocket stars. I guess that’s about to change. Where we’re going? That seems to be all hush-hush and top-secret. All I know is that we haven’t been there yet, they have lots of sheep to chase look at, and it’s far, far away.

While the moving parts are moving, Sky and I are trying to fit in a couple of things one more time. I finished my last secret mission and I got my AKC Novice JWW (Jumpers with Weaves) title (with three first places). My little brother got his first Q and a second-place at his first AKC agility event ever.  Pretty good heh?! He had barely turned 15 months, the minimum age to enter. We also said our goodbyes to Apalachicola. We missed Miss Martha but were able to sail one more time on the big float a.k.a. The Follower. I was told that the big float won’t be able to follow us overseas. Yep, that’s another mystery to me. I would think that we can slow down soon but knowing headquarters that might be wishful thinking. If I don’t see you before the end of the year:

Happy Howli-Days and Smooth Sailing from all of us!

P.S. Don’t eat all Santa’s cookies and if you do make sure you shred the evidence.

B = 4 !

Yes, yes, the math is absolutamente correct: B = 4! That’s roughly 30+  years in human years! That means I have voting rights AND I will never ever have to go to school again, right?!   OK, let’s vote for B-day cake with treats efury day AND play all day.  How is this different from my current life? Hmm, hmm…Maybe I should plead the fifth.

Anyhowls, for the big occasion we took some pics. Why the long faces you ask? Well, I would like to see yours if you had to sit on an empty tummy in front of yummies for endless days! Luckily we didn’t pass out before we could scoop the barely visible yummies in our tummies. We do know that it’s healthier to exercise a bit after eating so  we played some on the way to bed and then took a well deserved nap to dream of endless summer days with lots of squirrels to chase.

Make sure you get some zzz-s in before the end of the day,

Benji

Sky = 1!

Sky turned one this month! That was cause for a big celebration! He hasn’t been with us for that long but we can’t imagine life without him. He is certainly one bundle of joy! Of course, we had to make a slideshow of his monthly photos to show you how he has grown!

Happy National Mutt Day!

Do you know what day it is? It’s National Mutt Day! We hope that means more shelter animals are getting adopted and more cake for Mutts like us!

Have a fury fun kind of day!

Winnings

How was your weekend? We had a busy one. We traveled to an agility event in the pooch mobile. I won two first places in Novice Jumpers; M is very proud. Okay, I’ll admit, maybe I’m a bit too. The blue and green ribbons I won do look good on my chest, don’t you think? Since I had two qualifying runs, I could pick out a toy too. I choose one for Da Sky because he cheered me on. He likes balls and tug toys so I got the perfect toy, a combination of the two so that we can play together. After all, you gotta remember to play hard after you work hard. But, if possible skip the hard work and go straight to the play hard part.

Well, I better go. I got some Zuluism* to catch up on. I didn’t really have time for it over the weekend. And you know what they say if you don’t have time for that then you have to do more of it.

Hope you have a pawriffic week with loads of fun intermingled with Zuluism,

Benji

Mugshots

I know, I know, we haven’t been in touch for a while but we’re still here and not in jail yet although the heading might tell you otherwise. Life has been fun with the little guy. He is turning into a big champ who is up for anything that keeps him moving! Agility, dock diving, you name it and he is in. He even got invited to herd some sheep AND he is allowed to come back! We can honestly say that he has a few tricks up his sleeve. That’s what led us to sit for the Trick Dog Exam in May. I’m happy to report that we are now officially two tricksters. That should keep us out of jail at least for a little while.

Just one more month and Da Sky will be one! I hope there will be a big partay with a mighty birthday cake. I’m definitely counting down for that one!

Da Big City

Sky for sure is getting around. The other week I showed him da big city Apalachicola. I had been there before but it was all new for Da Sky. Sky was a rock star; he got to greet people left and right and kept wagging his tail. He even walked as if he owned the city. That’s pretty good for a newbie.

I decided to show Sky my favorite nooks and crannies in da city. Forrest Gumps’ shrimp boat was still there but my other hangout, Oysterbones, was gone!  Therefore no additional yummies for us pooches. Luckily we had packed plenty of supplies for this trip so we didn’t go hungry. We found out later that Oysterbones had only moved a couple of blocks further down the road. Oh well, we will have to go back soon then. Our next stop was the Chocolate & Coffee Company shop. This was just for the humans.  There was lot’s of chocolate we couldn’t eat but hey sometimes you have to sacrifice a bit for the sake of something greater. A visit to Margaritaville seemed to fit the bill.

Of course, no coastal road trip is complete without a stop at the beach so that’s what we did before we went home. It turned out that Sky, just like me, doesn’t like water. Good boy, Sky! The humans were a tad disappointed; they love the water. I never understood the attraction. It’s wet, it moves, you get cold, what’s the point?! On the other hand, the beach itself is a super sandbox. Sky got some goggles as his blue eye is a bit light sensitive. I think he needs to order a visor because those goggles kept falling off his face. You can’t dig like that.

We saw a lot of debris from Hurricane Michael (October 2018)  that hasn’t been dealt with yet due to a lack of funds.  And we didn’t even go to the places that were hit worst of all such as Mexico Beach (FL). We are wondering if this means that the forgotten coast really has been forgotten. We hope not because it is a wonderful place to visit!

Happy Tails,

Benji

Da Sky Flies

I never knew this but da Sky can fly. You learn somethin’ new efurry day.

I didn’t feel like flying, it’s too hot (above 84° F when we tried this amateur stint, pfff) and the yummies were not too yummy (I think da Sky ate them all), so I said thanks but no thanks. Sometimes you gotta pick and choose. In two days time, I will go to professional agility training. There are bound to be better yummies (shhh, don’t tell da Sky). Hope you get to do something fun this weekend with lots of yummies on the horizon and bright skies.

Da Sky is da limit,

Limitless Sky

And it’s March; how did that happen?! We had several outings. The one that jumps out is Sky’s first sailing lesson.

I remember my first sailing lesson, eons ago. Beginnings can be a bit rough but Sky was like a rock according to the trainers I pawsonally hired for him. Pretty soon he will be ready to be my first mate. Can’t wait to go sailing with him and head for the skies.

Come sail away come sail away
Come sail away with me

Training Da Sky

I always knew that I couldn’t influence da weather but do you know that you can train da Sky? It turns out to be pretty easy too. Who would have known?! Sky has had multiple lessons in an unofficial capacity as soon as our vet gave him a clean bill of health. On one of Sky’s trips, he went to agility training with me. He didn’t have to jump through hoops but he sure did get a lot of attention. Nobody took photos of me. I know, how come????! To even things out, I’m throwing in a photo of my first encounter with agility way back in 2016.

Sky even went shopping and came home with a new leash. Unfortunately, no treats whatsoever. I quadruple checked. Sky also had his first puppy pawty with my CCI buddies to welcome Kirby a new nine-week-and-counting CCI pup. I couldn’t go as I had to pawsonally dogtor Q , you know the second in command at headquarters, back to health. Sometimes you have to set your priorities. Stay out of trouble this weekend, I will try to do the same.

IMG_0346b.JPGHi guys and girls! Another update from the office. In between Sky’s lessons and my agility classes, I still try to go to the Mission Possibles. The Howlidays and Agility had interrupted my schedule a bit as well but I think I’m pretty much back on track. The last one was at the end of January. Several children R.E.A.D. some pawtastic stories to me.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.” – George R.R. Martin

The above is not totally true as you can live many lives in your head, I know I do, but you get the drift. Wished I could get mine all on paper. It would make communication with da humans so much easier.

The Beast

Conquering the heart of The Beast has become part of our tactical training. Sky seemed ready for this so M took him to The Beast Park. The Beast looked older. There is some wear and tear on him. I think he needs some pampering from a real Dogtor.

Is this the one?!

img_0536b

He is purretty big!

To win your adversaries heart you say goodbye with a kiss. Sky didn’t have to do that yet; that’s for his next lesson.

The Cave

The cave has been an integral part of the training curriculum at headquarters. The first photo shows Ms. Zulu when she was still a youngster, about three years old just like I am now.

I had to dig deep in the archives to find this old photo of myself when I was about 2 months old.

The third photo shows Sky in his first week at headquarters, when he had just discovered the cave.

The cave is very old; it dates back to many years B.Z. (Before Zulu). It looks like it’s part of a Stonehenge circle which could be true or not. The cave has been explored extensively by all four-legged beings, young and old, who resided at headquarters at some point in time.  Over the years each of us has put our own paw-stamp on it so it means a lot to all of us including the two-legged ones.

Many Firsts

There is a first for everything. Sky had many firsts since he became my new little brother earlier this month.  He turned 25 weeks for the very first and last time:

He got to travel in the car in style on the back seat albeit with a safety harness on but without a crate. He behaved like a prince with manners with and without my supervision:

Car ride2.jpg

Sky met new friends and hopped on a boat, maybe next time we will take it for a spin:

And Sky learned first hand that the beach is fun!

Can’t wait to show Sky more exciting stuff!

Arbor-Gility

Arbor-gility photo.jpg

Yesterday we turned another Mission Impossible into a Mission Possible. We organized our first ever Arbor-Gility event. A little over a month ago, I was asked to show my Dogtoring, R.E.A.D.ing, and agility skills by the organizer of Arbor Day in my neck of the woods. I’m pretty experienced with Arbor Day as I started handing out trees for the first time when I was only 4 months old but organizing and competing in Arbor-gility was a first for me and maybe a first in the whole wide kingdom.

Instead of me running around like crazy and doing it all by myself, I thought it would be way more fun to invite my Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) and Animal Therapy furriends. As it turned out, 26 agility dogs, 5 Dogtors, and 2 service dogs in training showed up. Isn’t that amazing?! With the Arbor-gility event, we raised lots of 🍪🍪🍪 for a local non-profit animal rescue group.

Sky had to stay home to practice Zuluism. He will be able to join us on one of our Mission Possibles as soon as he has received all his booster vaccines.

I had fun and can’t wait till the next event,

Pooches in Charge

IMG_0017b.JPG

Listen up: Commander in Chief barking

I know, I know, I promised to stay apawlitical in this blog but just couldn’t help myself after yet another year seems to go down the drain. Someone, pul-ease plug that hole! When I heard that the government is still shut down, I said to Sky, “bro, they can’t do that man”. All those people without a treat-check, who is going to pay for their yummies? I certainly would not stand for that. It ain’t right.  So I’m thinking that we need some new blood [where is the bloodhound?] to steer our backyard back in the right, no make that a left, direction.

Ms. Zulu was supposed to run for president but since she got angel wings last year that won’t happen in our reality show. So I will have to take the lead. I’m good at running, I even ran Mach 2+. I know it’s hard to believe but you can read all about it on this blog. It’s in black and white so it has to be true. We even have photos, that’s double poof.

B Mach 3b

Mach 2+ record

I’m always about facts anyhowls, contrary to the some-bodies currently in charge. It’s a fact that I love to sniff. It’s a fact that we doggies can analyze different smells way better than the two-legged ones.  It’s a fact that I can smell something fishy from far far away. You can say I’m a real fact tracker. I can sniff out the house – that’s supposed to be crystal clear white- to see if there is something fishy going on there that troubles the waters. If it is, I guarantee you that I will piss on it. And I think I can convince Sky to do the same.

If you vote for me I will guarantee you that I will personally dig some big tunnels under the wall that has been the talk of the backyard. The tunnels might also be helpful to bypass the pesky trade sanctions. I can get some chewers to work on the wall itself too.  I’m sure I can get all my fur-iends to help me with those tasks. Mark my words. Yes, it will be great, it will be Aa-mazing. And no, I won’t bark “I never barked that”.

I am nominating Sky as my running mate. He still has a lot to learn but at his rate, he will soon outrun the major golfers playing in the house that’s not so purely clean. And for those who don’t like imported stuff, they won’t have to be afraid of us. I personally guarantee that Sky and I are both registered as 100% All-American. Take my bark for it.

img_2264c

Leave it to me; I’m no couch potato

If you vote for Sky and me in November 2020 we promise:

  • Less barking, more digging
  • No barking up the wrong tree
  • Yummies for e-furry body
  • Lots of tunnels
  • More sniffing
  • Plenty of chewing on a bone
  • Sky high jumping
  • Border Collie stamina & higher intelligence

WOOOFFF!

A New Seed

Well, apparently new seeds were growing last year.  I would like to introduce my new little brother Luke Skywalker de Louisiana a.k.a. SKY. I gave him the Codename 0012.img_9999b

Ain’t he something else?! His shelter name was Luke, we added Skywalker. SKY was moved from an overcrowded Louisiana shelter that was not suited for puppies to North Florida. Hence his last name. He is roughly 5 months old and our vet said that he was probably a mix between a Border Collie and Springer Spaniel.  SKY has aspirations to become a Jedi Master. When my former agility trainer saw his photo she said, “The Force is strong in this one”. So maybe he’s on his way.

img_0015b

To be honest, I am hoping he can join me on my super-secret missions sometime in the future. With a name like SKY, he should be able to fly, don’t you think? That should come in handy on our Mission Impossibles.

SKY started his tactical training last Friday at headquarters. He has to wait at least a couple of months before he can start any offsite agility training but for now, he can start with the basics at headquarters. It’s a lot of chewing on a bone and sometimes there is a bone of contention but I’ve shown that it can be done. Anyhowls, in the meantime, SKY can prepare for his S.T.A.R. exam. More on all this prep work at a later time. For now, this puppy needs some rest.

A New Chapter

IMG_2093b.JPGIt’s the last day of the year; time to reminisce. The woods are a good place for it, especially on a foggy morning. There were some good parts but also tough parts this year especially towards the end with Ms. Zulu going to the rainbow bridge. IMG_2081b.JPGNew seeds are bound to sprout from that which no longer is. We hope that the new year will bring lots of happy new beginnings for all beings small and tall, young and old. Be kind towards one another as well as yourself.
